Are your traffic signs legal?
If you have traffic signs or parking signs on your property then you need to make sure that they meet the requirements of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. This is the Federal Highway Administration's "Rulebook" on what size, shape, height, location, color, reflectivity, etc all signs are required to be on your property. This is not a book you want to take to the beach and read. However, if you can't fall asleep at night, then reading this manual should do the trick!
But it is really an important document to keep you from being exposed to lawsuits or fines. The bottom line is, if any customer or employee drives on your property, then you need to have signs that are in compliance with the MUTCD. That is over simplifying the requirements, but it is a good rule of thumb to follow to be safe.
Here is another way to tell if your signs are not compliant. If you have a STOP sign on your property that looks like either of these STOP signs...you need to replace them ASAP!
First and foremost, they might cause an accident and someone could get hurt. And if that happens, you will be liable if you had signs like these that are the wrong color, no longer reflective, mounted at the wrong height, etc.
If you have any questions as to whether or not your signs are compliant and to code, please just send us a photo of the signs in question. Or you can also pick up the phone and give us a call. We'd be happy to help.
